Thoughts on Christian Life

Day 004 – 01/04 Job 1,2

The story of Job is familiar to most Christians and I will get into more details as the weeks progress.  However, for this post I want to focus on a couple of specific verses.

(8) Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?  There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Job 1: 8 (NIV)

(3) Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.” Job 2: 3 (NIV)

What I would like to focus on are the qualifications God lays out to Satan that got His attention.  “There is no one on earth like him; his is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”  This seems simple enough.  Blameless (not sinless) and upright.  Fear God and shun evil.  Somehow this sounds familiar.

(36) Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

(37) Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your  mind.’ (38) This is the first and greatest commandment. (39) And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (40) All the Law and the Prophets hand on these two commandments.” Matthew 22: 36-40

It is amazing to me how straightforward this is if we are willing to just read, understand, accept, and implement God’s word.  This is not complex.  We just need to be willing to submit to his will.

May we all improve ourselves a little every day
